Saraswati

The Wise Deity of Knowledge, Music, and Art

Saraswati - Hindu deity illustration showing the vedas (book) and the veena

Deity Saraswati is the calm and brilliant deity of all things creative and intelligent. She carries a musical instrument called a veena and a sacred book, showing her love for music and learning. When we need help with our homework, want to paint a beautiful picture, or learn a new song, we think of her.

She is especially worshipped during the festival of Vasant Panchami, which marks the beginning of spring. On this day, students place their books at her feet to ask for her blessings for the coming year.
