Durga

The Invincible Warrior Deity of Courage

Durga - Hindu deity illustration showing the lion or tiger and the trishula (trident)

Deity Durga is the powerful and fearless mother of the universe. She rides a lion and carries many weapons to protect the world from evil. When bad things happen, she appears to fight for what is right and restore peace. She is a symbol of strength and protection.

She is the main deity worshipped during the nine-day festival of Navaratri, where each day celebrates one of her divine forms.

πŸ’‘Did You Know?

Deity Durga was created by the combined powers of all the male deities! When a powerful demon named Mahishasura couldn't be defeated by anyone, the deities merged their energies to create her. Each deity gave her their most powerful weapon, which is why she is often shown with ten arms, each holding a different weapon, like a trident, discus, and sword!
